Feral heirloom bulbs
These are feral, practically wild, daffodils. Mrs. Calentine planted some of their forbears a hundred fifty years ago.
They're still growing in front of what used to be her house on New England Road in Bern Township, Athens County, Ohio.

Over a century, they spread to cover almost an acre with their golden blooms each spring. The house collapsed years ago, its roof wilted like a fallen bloom.
We've harvested some of her bulbs and left more than we've taken.  The tradition will continue. Now you can plant this pioneer woman's hardy bulbs in places where you want to naturalize them, to let them grow and spread through the years like she did, with no care at all.
But we still think of her when we see her bulbs, even if we don't know her name. We wonder who planted those, just like someone may wonder about you when they see the ones you've planted.
